Pokhran Nuclear test link to Jaipur Blast, India

This week saw another trajic terror attack at Jaipur, Rajasthan - India for which reasons and culprits are still unknown (officially by Indian govt. as on 15th May). It is hypothesized that the terror attacks were supposed to clash with the date of 2nd Nuclear test done by India in 1998 at Pokhran. Jaipur is the largest city which is close to Pokhran. This means, terror attacks were planned on May 13, 2008 so as to co-incide with the tenth anniversary of Pokhran Nuclear Test by India (May 13, 1998). so now that motive is almost clear, lets have a closer look according to TOI report.

Date: 13th May 2008

Time: around 7.30 PM

Casualty: 63 (as on 15th May 10.30 am)

Reason for majority casualty: Severe penetrating injury caused to internal organs by metal balls stuffed inside the bomb.

Suspected Motive: To cause maximum casualty in a peaceful large city close to Pokhran on the tenth anniversary day (May 13 1998 - May 13 2008) and there by shock the world.

Suspected reason behind Motive: Frustration in seeing India developing and ‘home country’ suffering. Also frustration in seeing India becoming a Nuclear power country since Pokhran test.

Now the gaps….

Putting metal balls inside the bomb seems to be a very crude way of increasing mortality. Though it is one of the most dangerous and cheap way of amassing mortality rate. This shows the clear motive behind the gruesome act. Motive was to increase the real ’suffering’ to victims by way of painful death or maiming them for the entire life. But this way of terrorism can’t be sophisticated. This is local terrorism or terrorism without sufficient funds.

Also as usual the targets were inside “Walled city” and also on religious shrines. Earlier reports suggested that tuesday being an auspicious day for hindus, they planted a bomb in Hanuman temple. But this could well be a mere-co incidence. After reading the entire report, I feel that the motive was really POKHRAN rememberance and not tuesday temple.

What could have been done ?

Bombs are nothing but pressurized chemicals. As these chemicals are very unique, why not restrict its use or keep a proper log of people buying these chemicals ? Also people who are skilled in this job may not be much….which IB could have easily found out after these many blasts.
